The Devastation of Passion

Passion is powerful, intense emotion of any kind. It carries us into action. It can define our life. It can exalt or shatter lives.

Passion is powerful, intense emotion of any kind. It carries us into action. It can define our life. It can exalt or shatter lives.

When greatly aroused by any emotion we stretch beyond our usual limits to experience, to create, to destroy. Passion, by its nature, seeks expression.

It awakens us to stand in line at five o'clock in the morning in pouring rain, against the odds to audition for a chance to work as an artist. It tells us that midnight is an excellent time to tinker with an invention even though our "day job" starts at eight a.m.

Our desire for an experience outside and above the ordinary can lead to great things. Thirst to know, to explore lead us to put people on the moon. It takes us ,for good or ill, beyond our normal day to day, even when we need to break the rules.

Breaking the rules of England brought the United States into being.

Passion also breaks our hearts. One act of faithlessness devastates the one betrayed. It leaves them wondering if the love was ever real; doubting their own ability to know. The cheater is also damaged, no matter how smooth the justifications. "The urge of the moment can become the sorrow of a lifetime.", L. Ron Hubbard.

The passion to help drives first responders to work twenty hour days for weeks on end if there is any chance that one more life might be saved. It is what moves us to walk through fire to save another living being.

We depend on passionate creative individuals to safe guard us and move our culture forward. I say thank you!
