Matching Our Masks and Gloves to Our Outfits Will Beautify the Environment

Maybe we should match our masks and gloves to our shoes and purses....

Hats and gloves would often match. Shoes and purses would match even more often. We even paid attention to which shade of beige or brown our stockings should be to blend attractively with our outfit. It was an era when even the poorest dressed for Church in their Sunday Best.

Today business wear is interpreted to mean shorts and flip-flops. But then, I live in Florida. And it is the era of blue paper face masks.
Maybe we should match our masks and gloves to our shoes and purses....

And we all know how it is when you get caught in particular disarray, like when you run to the store without your make-up or with curlers in your hair, for just that one item, and that is when you run into everyone you know. Really. They all seem to be there, all at once, just because you really didn't want to see anybody. And if you were a teenage girl getting ready to go to a party that night, it would be the guy you had a crush on, or worse, his mother... There was never any place to hide.

Aesthetics played a part in culture. They still do. When L. Ron Hubbard said, "Safeguard and improve your environment." the advice that followed looked at different aspects of environment. The first one addressed , "Be of good appearance. It sometimes does not occur to some individuals-as they do not spend their days looking at themselves- that they form a part of the scenery...", also by Mr. Hubbard.

In this Coronavirus time of masks and gloves, this is almost funny. Really, though, perhaps we can take a bit more time to look at least pleasant... and beautify the world for all of us.
