In an effort to promote London as a top destination, London Hostels Association Ltd. (LHA) promotes a program where guests are entitled to free shared accommodation in exchange for volunteering.

[LONDON, 08/15/2015]—London Hostels Association Ltd. (LHA), an organisation managing affordable accommodations in London, offers guests free shared accommodation in exchange for volunteering at any of the company’s sites. This program is part of the charity’s commitment to foster camaraderie among foreign visitors and to immerse them full in British culture.

The Program

LHA offers free shared accommodation to guests who are willing to do some volunteer work while visiting the city. The volunteer work is simple and involves guests taking over a position at any of LHA’s sites. Volunteering duties include roles in housekeeping, catering, office/reception, porter, and facility supervision.

The only requirement is that the applicant should be over 18. LHA encourages applicants to email their CVs to [email protected].

The Perks

LHA says that the students and foreign guests make up the majority of volunteers at almost all their sites. Other than free accommodation, many guests look at the stint as an opportunity to training, gain experience and make friends, says LHA. Furthermore, the experience helps foreign volunteers improve their English speaking skills and learn more about British culture.

Volunteers receive the same flexible living benefits that guests enjoy in exchange for a commitment of just 20-22 hours of duties per week. Guests are also entitled to free meals. LHA says there is no limit to how long guests can stay.
