An initiative to discuss the growth potential of Hydrogen Economy in India

Fuel Cell India is the country’s first private initiative to promote and highlight the potential of Hydrogen Energy in India. The initiative was started by environmental lawyer Ashwini Kumar in July, 2020 who has been working tirelessly to create awareness about the numerous possibilities of Hydrogen as the fuel of the future and is championing the adoption of H2 Fuel Cells in India.

Fuel Cell India is hosting its first online webinar – “UNLOCKING THE HYDROGEN ECONOMY IN INDIA” on Friday, 18th December, 2020 at 3.00 PM IST with eminent speakers who will be discussing the applications for hydrogen fuel cells in transportation, back-up power in telecom, data centres, essential infrastructure, etc.; microgrids for remote mountainous and island areas and for industrial hubs. The speakers would further be touching upon the policies and infrastructure development required for adoption of an alternative fuel like hydrogen in India.

The impressive line-up of speakers for the webinar includes the below personalities, each of whom are distinguished achievers in their own right:

1. Ms. Gauri Singh, Deputy Director-General, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
2. Dr. N. Rajalakshmi, Senior Scientist & Team Leader, Centre for Fuel Cell Technology (CFCT), International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI)
3. Mr. Neelkanth Marathe, Director, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune
4. Dr. P. C. Maithani, Scientist, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India
5. Mr. Siddharth R. Mayur, CEO, h2e Power Systems Pvt. Ltd., an Adar Poonawalla backed company
6. Mr. Shirish S. Garud, Senior Fellow, Renewable Energy Technologies Division, TERI

Speaking about the conference, Mr. Ashwini Kumar said, “I feel truly humbled that our respected speakers have agreed to be a part of our first webinar. I have been trying to religiously research and disseminate information about the potentials of hydrogen as one of the most sustainable and promising fuels of the future. Over the last five months I have shared weekly papers with as many people as possible on the subject and even tried to diligently keep the relevant audience updated via our twitter handle. I truly hope that through this webinar the benefits of adopting a hydrogen driven economy reaches many more relevant people, stakeholders, and policy makers to create an environment for debate and discussions on the subject.”

About Hydrogen Energy:

On November 30, 2015, in Paris, France, a Joint Launch Statement was issued on behalf of the Governments of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America launching the Mission Innovation initiative to reinvigorate and accelerate public and private global clean energy innovation with the objective to make clean energy widely affordable.

One of the Innovation Challenges of Mission Innovation called IC8: Renewable and Clean Hydrogen is to accelerate the development of a global hydrogen market by identifying and overcoming key technology barriers to the production, distribution, storage, and use of hydrogen at gigawatt scale.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26th November, 2020 announced plans to launch a National Hydrogen Energy Mission, forwarding India’s green energy credentials for a carbon-free next-generation fuel.
