The legacy of 123 years of business would not be this strong if sustainability was not an integral part of A.Tosh since its inception. Guided by the visionary leaders, the company has been following pragmatic business strategies which are both goal oriented and sustainable. Apart from staying consistently relevant in the market, the eminent tea manufacturer, A.Tosh has kept their commitment to Nature being an environment friendly business.
The organisation believes in giving back to nature and to ensure the same, certain practices have always been there. As the proverb says, “Charity begins at home”; they believe a behavioural change towards nature should come from them first. Their warehouse campus is covered with lush greenery. A coconut grove, a mango orchard, flowers, fruits and other shade trees cover almost 70% of the 12 acres of land.
In total, there are over 3000 trees making the entire campus low on carbon particles and inviting a variety of fauna. Not only that, the greenery helps to control the surrounding temperature. Development has been observed in water table levels too. To protect the environment inside, the authority prohibits usage of plastic bags, Polyethene or similar products. Nobody is allowed to smoke inside processing, packaging and storage facilities. Being no tobacco zones, air in these areas remains clean and fresh.
Recently, A.Tosh has successfully planted an entire Miyawaki forest on two acres of land within their warehouse premises. Miyawaki forest is a Japanese concept of tree plantation that ensures ten times faster growth of the saplings. As a result, thirty times denser green cover can be achieved in much less time. Just within eight months, the amount of carbon has reduced in surrounding areas.
Undoubtedly, A.Tosh has fulfilled all the criteria to reach global goals of reducing carbon footprint while they do business. Responsible image of the organisation has made them achieve global recognition. Besides, their quality products and seamless services add value to the century old business.
Not only ensuring a green campus, but also A.tosh takes pride in harvesting and collecting rainwater which is stored in an underground reservoir. This is capable of storing around 2, 50,000 litres of water. It is one of the most responsible initiatives as they do not outsource water for irrigation. Rather use up the stored rainwater.
With the Miyawaki forest and rain water harvesting system, A.Tosh is positioned much ahead of the curve as a bulk tea manufacturer. For all of these achievements, visionary strategies of leaders must be appreciated.
World Environment Day is about a promise of giving back to nature and showing our gratitude towards mother Earth. But, what’s the use of observing such one day if we continue to consume irresponsibly and hardly care about our planet? A.Tosh has set an example before the society and shown us that even small steps can make a huge difference to our environment. The series of sustainable initiatives may never stop. A.tosh inspires us all and comes with a promise of returning the favour to our environment, no matter what.
