A driver in UK was pulled out of his car for having awful 4D number plates, claimed a police officer.

A UK driver was pulled over and fined for having improper number plates on his car. The motorist driving chrome blue Range Rover SVR was penalised for the errors. BCH Road Policing tweeted a picture of the car along with a message about the offence committed. It said: The driver of this vehicle has been reported for his awful number plate and the front one was even worse. Apparently, his dad will pay the fine!

While the letters and numbers on the 4D number plates were obscured it appears that the driver had blacked out the number plate at the rear.

It was only assumed that the driver did something similar at the front.

There was a small trend with drivers of premium cars to be reluctant to put a proper number plate on it as it can be perceived as ugly.

Number plates must adhere to a strict set of criteria to be classed as legal.

It is important for the number to be clear and legible at all times so it can be viewed be police officers or Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras (ANPR), which are used typically at car parks.

Failing to adhere to the rules could see you be fined up to £1,000.

The DVLA states that UK number plates should:
• Be made from a reflective material
• Display black characters on a white background (front plate)
• Display black characters on a yellow background (rear plate)
• Not have a background pattern

All number plates since 1st September 2001 also must meet the following specifications:
• Characters must be 79mm tall
• Characters (except the number 1 or letter I) must be 50mm wide
• The character stroke (the thickness of the black print) must be 14mm
• The space between characters must be 11mm
