Ecommerce Cart – Custom Cart or Readymade Cart

A well made ecommerce cart would also automatically recast the options based on the item purchased.

We live in a world of the instant pill and orders filled in before you could even think about them so why not a readymade ecommerce cart? Are there any pitfalls in ordering a readymade ecommerce cart or is there more to ecommerce carts than meets the eye? Let’s find out.

A good ecommerce cart stays silent, invisible, updates itself quietly in the background and when called upon to display itself (usually via a click on the shopping cart icon), opens itself up to display a treasure chest of purchased contents.

Typically, a well made and efficient ecommerce cart would display all the items purchased by the customer, each purchased item in the ecommerce cart is hypertext linked back to the page where it was purchased from, each item in the ecommerce cart also has a tiny thumbnail sized image next to, or below it. Then there is the unit quantity, the unit price, gross item price, discounts if any, taxes if any and finally the item net total. At the end of the ecommerce cart there would be the gross total, discounts, taxes, delivery charges and finally the net purchase total.

The customer would also be able to make changes in the ecommerce cart. Such changes would include alteration of the unit quantity, purchase quantity or removing an item or even adding a new item to the ecommerce cart. Any changes made in the ecommerce cart would result in an instant and automatic recalculation of totals, taxes, discounts and delivery costs in the ecommerce cart.

A well made ecommerce cart would also automatically recast the options based on the item purchased. For example, if the item in the ecommerce cart is shoes, then the option available should be quantity (type of shoe and size being selected on the item description page). On the other hand if the item purchased is paint then the options available in the ecommerce cart would be unit quantity (100ml, 200ml, 500ml and so on), and quantity. The ecommerce shopping cart software solutions would automatically alter the options based on individual items.

Below the ecommerce cart, you are usually expected to display items that are similar or go hand-in-hand to those purchased. For example, if the customer has added rechargeable batteries to the ecommerce cart, then a battery charger, extension cables, spike buster, battery tester, etc. would be the correct items to be displayed below the ecommerce cart.

If the readymade Ecommerce shopping cart solutions can do all the above, and is easily customizable, easy to recode if necessary, then a readymade would be ideal for you. However, you also need to make sure it is stand-alone Ecommerce storefronts and not part of some content management system (unless that is what you are looking for). Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of a readymade ecommerce cart is that it will not display the products purchased the way you want it to display. You may have to simply go with the way the readymade ecommerce cart chooses to display the purchased items. So you might have to choose between convenience and perfection.
