Sensex falls over 100 points, Nifty slips below 8250
The market has opened flat on Monday. The Sensex is up 13.73 points at 27472.11 and the Nifty is up 6.85 points at 8291.35.
Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index also came under bit of pressure and slipped below its crucial psychological support level of 8250, weighed down by losses in autos, banks, oil & gas, metal and realty stocks.
The Nifty was at 8267 down 20 points or 0.2 per cent. It touched a high of 8292.30 and a low of 8245.60 in trade today.
Infosys (up 1.2 per cent), ITC (up 1 per cent), Sun Pharma (up 0.8 per cent), BHEL (up 0.7 per cent) and L&T (up 0.56 per cent) were among the major Sensex gainers.
Coal India (down 3.2 per cent), Tata Motors (down 1.56 per cent), Bharti Airtel (down 1 per cent), GAIL India (down 0.98 per cent) and RIL (down 0.92 per cent) were the major index losers.
The Indian rupee gained in the opening trade. It has rose by 17 paise at 62.15 per dollar against 62.32 Friday.
