Bhubaneswar: Leading steel maker and one of the major investors in Odisha Jindal Steel & Power Ltd has bagged Odisha INC Green Award – 2015 for its sustainable environmental practices like adoption of environment friendly technology, plantation drive, watershed management programme, pollution control initiatives and others. Mr. DK Saraogi, Executive Director and Location Head of JSPL’s Angul unit received the Award from State Industries Minister Shri Debi Prasad Mishra, in presence of sports and youth affairs minister Shri Sudam Marandi, MLA (Bhubaneswar North) Shri Priyadarshi Mishra, Senior Journalist Shri Gourahari Das, Notet Artist PK Mahanandia and other dignitaries  during celebration of Annual Day Function of leading web portal www.orissadiary.com. 

General Manager (Projects) of JSPL Mr. Ashish Pandey has been declared winner of Odisha INC Emerging Youth Business Leader Award during the programme. The Awardees have been selected by an independent panel of Jury. Receiving the award, Mr. DK Saraogi said, “This Award recognizes JSPL’s commitment and action for managing environment and pollution in Odisha. Protection of our environment and conserve resources is one of the core strategies in JSPL’s operations. This award on the day of National Pollution Prevention Day will further boost our resolve to create a pollution free environment”

JSPL, which is building a mega steel plant in Angul, Odisha, has adopted multiple strategies to decrease pollution and protect environment right from its plant design. It has used Coal Gasification Technology instead of the traditional Blast Furnace Technology to minimize waste. It passionately promotes fly-ash bricks to reduce soil degradation. The plant has been designed as a zero discharge plant, managing all is waste. JSPL has also installed online ambient air quality monitoring stations around its factory to monitor air quality, with real time data being linked to Odisha state pollution control board.

JSPL under the aegis of its CSR Arm, JSPL Foundation, has undertaken plantation of about 2 lakh Plants outside the Plant area in the periphery villages and has planted 2.65 lakh plant inside the Plant. It is also implementing a Watershed management programme in Angul, in collaboration with NABARD to enhance ground water recharge and soil fertility.

Born in Odisha, Mr. Ashish Pandey is currently working as a General Manager (Projects) in JSPL. With his commendable leadership skill and passion, he has significantly contributed towards fast implementation of the project. Mr. Pandey’s social engineering skill igniting community participation for conflict management has helped to create a win-win situation between people and the industry.

In recent past, JSPL, Odisha Units have bagged several coveted awards such as the Golden Peacock CSR Award, GreenTech Platinum Awards for CSR & HR, OTV CSR Award for Best CSR, India CSR Community Initiative award and many others.
