Stephen Crivillaro is known to most people as a young entrepreneur who has made his mark on the city of New York through his various real estate holdings. However, very few people realize that Stephen Crivillaro spends most of his free time volunteering with many charitable and philanthropic organizations in the Bronx and other boroughs of New York City.

One of the organizations that Stephen Crivillaro volunteers with quite frequently is the Bronx Organization for the Learning Disabled (BOLD). Stephen Crivillaro says that he became involved with BOLD after realizing that many people with learning disabilities rely on charitable organizations like BOLD to make it through school and beyond.

Stephen Crivillaro recently explained his involvement with BOLD to the press:

“Growing up, I knew that learning disabilities existed and I certainly understood that people with them needed additional support throughout school. However, I did not truly realize the impact that organizations like BOLD can have on people with learning disabilities.”

Stephen Crivillaro is quick to note that his role at BOLD was relatively small. However, Stephen Crivillaro says that he is “thrilled” with the service that he has been able to accomplish.

Stephen Crivillaro spoke very highly of BOLD, saying:

“The first things I learned at BOLD pertained to ‘person first’ language. I had always referred to the types of people who receive help at BOLD as ‘the learning disabled.’ Working with these wonderful people, I learned that that sort of language is dehumanizing and began referring to them as ‘people with learning disabilities.’ By teaching myself to use that sort of language, I began to recognize the true humanity of people with learning disabilities.”

Stephen Crivillaro was quick to remark that he has “very much enjoyed” his time volunteering with BOLD. In fact, Stephen Crivillaro hopes to continuing working with BOLD and other organizations like it in the future. Stephen Crivillaro believes that organizations like BOLD are integral to helping people with learning disabilities achieve at school and throughout the course of their lifetimes.
