It's June, and the temperatures in New Braunfels are usually in the 90s. From every living quarter and business, there are air-conditioning units that are turned on. Some houses surprisingly enough are with the air-conditioners on, but they're not running. Most of these houses have an inspection sticker right next to the windows the front door. The stickers have an inspection date and the name of a new company that is helping people save a significant amount of money on their electricity and gas heating bills. Dollar Energy Solutions is the startup creation of Preston Fontenot, a resident. The sticker is put on the front windows or around the doors of houses that have gone through the inspection and have upgraded their insulation where they needed it.

Most houses that go through the inspection successfully find themselves in comfortable temperatures regardless of the sweltering heat of the Texas sun. He decided to drive through an area that had many model homes built when he was a purchasing agent for a major construction company. He was at the same job for almost 20 years since the day he graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in construction management. Preston explains that he used to purchase materials to make a majority of the houses in the area. Preston mentions how the city's population was increasing so quickly that houses were going up daily. Preston Fontenot was at a local hardware store with his wife and kids when he noticed a couple that purchased one of these homes 16 years ago. He greeted them and remembered how they were one of the first families in the area. They mention their appreciation of the way the houses designed. The husband was with concerns about electrical bills during the winter and summer. Preston offered advice as they were walking through the store, and the couple appreciated his input. He later offered to come by to take a look, and that's what got him onto the idea to start the business. His business has inspected over 3000 homes in the last three years. The company is made up of 10 fully certified energy auditors.
