Maya Bloom has been a dedicated Girl Scout for over thirteen years. She is extremely passionate about serving and making a difference in the lives of others and the Girl Scouts have allowed her to consistently be of service to her community. Maya Bloom has worked as an instructor at Camporee from 2009 to 2011. In 2011, Maya Bloom was also elected as the delegate to attend the state convention.
Most recently, Maya Bloom was awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award for a service project that took 333 hours to complete over the course of a year. The Gold Award is the most distinguished achievement in Girl Scouting. To be eligible for this award, Maya Bloom had to complete a seven-step project that successfully identified an issue and investigated it thoroughly. She built a team and created a plan. Once the plan was constructed, Maya Bloom had to present it and gather feedback, then take action. The ultimate goal was to educate and inspire others through her work.
For her project, Maya Bloom had the goal of getting students outside more often. First, she constructed an outside classroom at a local elementary school; then she equipped students with a brochure that guided them through outdoor activities. Maya Bloom’s brochure had 85 activities to do outdoors, as well as a list of resources for other outdoor ventures. Her concept was so successful that she was also awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Award and was recognized by Governor Maggie Hassan, New Hampshire Representative Mel Myler, and New Hampshire Senator Sylvia Larsen.
Maya Bloom expressed her joy at winning the award. “I have been a member of Girl Scouts for over 13 years now,” she said, “This is a goal I set many years ago when I first joined the organization and I cannot believe I have finally received the Gold Award. Many hours went into my project and I am so happy about the outcome. I have received so much kind feedback and I am happy I could make a difference in the lives of others.” The school and faculty still use Maya Bloom’s project today and are extremely thankful for her contribution.
