Dog cabins can be free standing or built in a garage. The biggest advantage to having dog cabins constructed in a building is that it allows access to the dogs during bad weather. Moreover, the building also adds the warmth or cooling effect of a double-walled structure. Outside dog cabins have to instead be provided with insulation of their own. However, fiberglass insulation must be avoided at all costs.
The first step to building dog cabins would be covering all chewable corners of the dog cabins. They need to be covered with galvanised sheet rock corner molding. An optional plywood winter insert can be added to create an area to retain dog bedding for which pine shavings and marsh hay should be used. Cedar chips should instead be avoided as they can goof up the nose of the dog. Reliable heat mats can also be purchased in order to replace the bedding and provide an environment as comfortable as the living quarters of the dog owner himself. Other important features are the cleanliness and dryness of the bedding or heat mat surface. Nevertheless, all of these features can turn out to be in vain if the owner does not install a weather-proof dog door.
Inside-the-building dog cabins have similar features to the outside units in terms of building materials. Even the dog that lives inside a garage or other type of building must be provided with an electric heat mat that is healthier to sleep on because normal carpets or other such materialÈ™ retain moisture, dirt and bacteria which can cause many health problems.
Inside dog cabins do not require removable roofs. However, an inside door with three-quarter inch plywood is indeed needed. The door must be hinged with two standard cupboard hinges and latched with a three inch swivel safety clasp latch. After being constructed, the door must then be insulated. For the outside opening, a proven designed commercial door should be purchased in order to soften the appearance of the doghouse.
After building dog cabins, dog kennel systems should also be arranged. Checking local building codes before beginning the dog kennel systems construction project is a must.
Proper drainage of water and waste material in dog kennel systems is more than necessary in order to maintain good sanitation, general cleanliness and parasite control. This septic system is intended for a concrete run with a gutter leading to a container but it is not effective for gravel or sand runs.
Drainage from the outside run goes into a gutter that carries the waste to a large metal garbage. Final treatment of the waste water is completed in the drainfield trench which is constructed by making a level excavation with a trencher.
As a final step, a clean rock must be placed around the tank. A four-inch perforated sewer pipe has to, then be placed on the rock and butted up to the outside of the sewer tank. A layer of newspaper and the soil back fill complete the project. However, due consideration must be given to the soil as well. The key to the system functioning properly is the soil having a great absorption rate. Therefore, the type of soil used must be sand or sandy loam soil. A soil texture test carried out by the local soil conservation service can inform the dog kennel systems owner of the local soil conditions.
Furthermore, for those who wish to avoid frequent clean-out of the tank, a large aluminum shovel and a garden hoe must be used to pick up surplus stool. Thus, only hair and urine will be swept into the drainage system.
If, however, these building instructions are too difficult to follow, there is always the option of employing a professional who can construct the dog cabins and the dog system kennels with no effort and in due time. There are websites that specialize in this type of services and those that have little experience in building are better off letting professionals handle such matters.
