Doreen Duggan has intimate knowledge of the costs associated with long-term illnesses. Doreen Duggan reached out to merchants in the local area surrounding Bay Head, New Jersey for donations and support, and many gave items to be sold in a silent auction as well as treats and food for the event. Doreen Duggan also enlisted the help of friends and managers at the Mantoloking Yacht Club to prepare for the benefit party. When the big day came, Doreen Duggan's nine-year-old niece, who suffers from brain cancer, was treated to a day as a royal, complete with fancy foods and friends attending her. Doreen Duggan hosted the event on the same day as the wedding of William and Kate Middleton, and the young niece of Doreen Duggan loved every minute of watching the wedding on television.

During the party, Doreen Duggan held a silent auction for the items donated by local businesses, and all proceeds went to help Doreen Duggan's niece and her family with their medical bills. When asked about the event, Doreen Duggan was emotional: “I wanted to have a chance to help my niece be a kid for a day. So often, kids like her who deal with illnesses are faced with maturity before their time. Having the opportunity to help her relax and enjoy the day was special to me in more ways than I can count.”

Doreen Duggan's dedication and love for her extended family are clearly evident in this event. As Doreen Duggan continues on in her career, she hopes to have more opportunities like this one to supply kids in need with a chance for happiness, and to provide relief to struggling families through donations and benefit auctions.
