As part of his commitment to improving educational opportunities for middle and high school students, Jesus Salas of Miami speaks out on summer enrichment programs.

Jesus Salas of Miami is pleased to encourage parents, teens, and schools to seek out opportunities for summer enrichments for students at all age levels. From community service to educational programming and even seasonal employment, Jesus Salas of Miami firmly believes in keeping students thinking and learning even when school is no longer in session.

For the past six months, ever since he had the opportunity to act as the school’s Principal for a Day in December of last year, Jesus Salas of Miami has been working with the Miami-Dade County Public School Juvenile Justice Center. “What I’ve learned over the past six months is that students really do love learning, but teachers and mentors and parents need to tap into their passion and curiosity,” remarked Jesus Salas of Miami. “And learning, like any other good practice, needs to become a habit. Encouraging students to keep following their dreams over the summer helps keep them in that habit.”

Jesus Salas of Miami personally thinks of learning as a very broad category. Beyond pure academics, Jesus Salas of Miami encourages students to excel in other areas, as well. Art, music, acting, and even curiosity in business are all things that Jesus Salas of Miami has helped students become more familiar with and immerse themselves in while working at the Miami-Dade County Public School Juvenile Justice Center.

“Summer enrichment doesn’t have to mean summer school,” said Jesus Salas of Miami. “Certainly, there are some students who might be struggling with a particular academic topic who can use the summer to catch up and even get ahead. But I think that, perhaps even more importantly, the summer months can be a time where students can take a step back from learning in a school context and really dive into the topics that interest them on a personal level.”

As a professional in the broadcasting industry, Jesus Salas of Miami has helped many students to find summer opportunities interning and working in the music business. “Internships and work experience are a great way to get some hands-on learning while also networking and getting used to being in a professional setting,” said Jesus Salas of Miami. “I would love to see more schools helping connect students with summer jobs and internships, as well as more funding and scholarship opportunities for those who might not be able to afford an unpaid position.”
