Efstathios N Karanikolaidis finds travel a great way to expand his worldview.

Efstathios N Karanikolaidis is an investment banker who has worked for J.P. Morgan since 2002. He is a Managing Director of the firm's Leveraged Finance group, and puts in long days at the office. There is no such thing as a typical day, which is one of the attractions of his work.

With such a high-pressure job, Efstathios N Karanikolaidis takes every opportunity he gets to travel, and it is one of the things in life that he most enjoys. He learned what a pleasure it can be to visit some strange and exotic destination; or even to experience a slower-paced, more pleasant and enjoyable trip. Whatever kind of trip he ends up taking Efstathios N Karanikolaidis knows that just about any kind of travel is sure to provide him with a great opportunity for fun, adventure, and discovery.

Travel, as he knows, is not the same thing as taking a vacation, although they often are one and the same. He has been interested to read studies that show that men who don't take at least one vacation each year have a twenty percent greater risk of death from heart disease, and that most people who travel show significant reductions in their stress level, even within a day or two of starting their vacation.

Efstathios N Karanikolaidis values his travel time because it helps to enrich his life by increasing his knowledge of the world around him by meeting new people and experiencing new things. He finds it useful to get out of his comfort zone from time to time. His perspective and worldview have been shaped, among other things, by his experiences in Greece, where he attended the Athens University of Economics and Business and received his undergraduate degree in 1997.

But most of all, he finds that traveling on a regular basis can recharge his batteries, by providing him with the psychological lift he needs from time to time. Regular trips, even short ones, help to break the monotony of the day-to-day routine, and help him to sustain his energy and vitality level on the job. Without them, the daily grind is that much harder.
