Dr. Vijay Kumar of West Branch cites era of wasteful government as reason for his candidacy

Dr. Vijay Kumar, a West Branch physical therapist, says that Michigan is bouncing back from an unsustainable era of big state government. The recovery is largely due to the State’s Republican leadership, he says. But there is still plenty of work to do, and he intends to be part of the solution.
He is a candidate to become a State Representative from Michigan’s 103rd Congressional District. “I am running,” he explains, “because I believe that by prioritizing local communities and family values, we can create an environment that is not only attractive to businesses and employees, but also for us and our children.”
Dr Vijay Kumar West Branch is proud to call himself a self-made man. “When I first moved to West Branch, I only had a few dollars to my name. Through hard work, countless long hours, and dedication, I was able to build a successful physical therapy practice that serves residents across Northern Michigan.” He says that he is living proof that success can be achieved in Michigan without any help from the government.
But for too many years, the government tried to be the only answer to the state’s problems. It rewarded people, he said, who “were looking for handouts and the easy way out.” Consequently the government became a bloated bureaucracy, and is only now beginning to put what he calls a “lost decade” behind it.
Dr Vijay Kumar West Branch was born and raised in India but is now proud to be a United States citizen. He received his education at Boston University, the Xavier University School of Medicine, and other institutions. As the owner and operator of Community Rehabilitation Services in West Branch, he has learned that being involved in local, regional and state issues is of paramount importance. “The ability to serve as your next State Representative would allow me to continue giving back to the community that has given me everything.”
His district, he explains, is big, and is comprised of five counties: Crawford, Kalkaska, Missukee, Ogemaw, and Roscommon.
In addition to volunteering in numerous community causes, Dr. Vijay Kumar has served in a number of appointed and elected offices, including Chair of the State Board of Physical Therapy; Treasurer of the Rose City/Lupton Chamber of Commerce; Treasurer of the Ogemaw County Republican Party; member of the Ogemaw County Zoning Board of Appeals; and as a member of the Executive Committee for the 4th Congressional District.
