Desiree Powell is a highly trained certified medical laboratory specialist currently employed by the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She currently works a clinical laboratory technician within the Laboratory of Comparative Pathology where she has been employed since 2008. Desiree Powell received her certifications, licenses, and overall training while serving in the United States Army National Guard from 2006 to 2012. In addition to the pursuit of her education and career, she volunteered for a combat tour to Afghanistan where she worked alongside doctors seeing to injured comrades and civilians.

As a clinical laboratory technician at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center within the Laboratory of Comparative Pathology, Desiree Powell is responsible for performing clinical testing and analysis. Her clinical tests are in the fields of hematology, serology, parasitology, microbiology, and water testing. She is also responsible for maintaining analytical instrumentation and laboratory inventory, reporting the results of clinical tests, specimen analysis, and training colleagues, post-doctorate fellows, and even volunteers to do the same.

Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in biology at the State University of New York at Geneseo, Desiree Powell knew she wanted a job as a medical laboratory technician and decided to receive her certifications within the United States Army National Guard.

Desiree Powell was considered to be an outstanding soldier who was rewarded for her hard work by being given the honor of serving as squad leader. She is an Army Warrior Leader Course Graduate on the Commandant's List, meaning she graduated in the top 20th percentile, in January of 2011. She also received her Medical Laboratory Technician and Health Science Certificate from the George Washing University in June 2008.

During her combat tour in Afghanistan, Desiree Powell preformed many of the same duties she does every day at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center including clinical tests and subsequent analysis. She also aided the medical staff at the United States Embassy in setting up laboratory services as well as providing clinical testing in their medical facility. Desiree Powell has an invaluable wealth of experience in the medical laboratory technician field.
