Not everyone looks forward to their high school reunion; it can be an awkward time, catching up with people you once knew who are now like strangers, sharing stories that happened a long time ago. For some people it can be a source of some anxiety, as they realize how much time has passed, and start to feel like they have not done enough with their lives. Christopher Braud has no such hang-ups, having experienced a nearly unbroken string of successes in the ten years since he left high school. If anything, Christopher Braud seems genuinely concerned that he not seem like he is bragging when people ask him about what he has been doing.

From someone else, that might come off like false modesty, but for Christopher Braud it seems perfectly natural and genuine. Despite the fact that he graduated magna cum laude from LSU in 2009 with a B.S. in biological science, and despite the fact that he graduated with high marks from LSU’s School of Dentistry in 2013, and despite the fact that he is just 26 and already a practicing dentist at Oak Harbor Family Dentistry, earning all kinds of professional accolades and decorations, Christopher Braud is nothing if not humble. If anything, Christopher Braud acts like he is at the beginning of his climb toward success, not as though he has already experienced plenty of it.

Christopher Braud probably wouldn’t even mention his extensive volunteer work in the community, with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, food pantries and youth outreach programs, to name just a few. Christopher Braud probably wouldn’t even mention his volunteer work for the ADA’s Give Kids A Smile Day program, helping underprivileged youth get much-needed dental care. It’s just not in Christopher Braud’s nature to talk about himself like that.

“I don’t know why, it just doesn’t feel right to me to bring that stuff up out of nowhere,” he says. “If someone asks me about it, I’m willing to talk, but to bring it up kind of demeans the purpose, in a way. It makes it seem smaller, pettier. But that’s just me.”

At his upcoming reunion, his classmates might not even know that Christopher Braud has been doing so much good. That seems perfectly OK with him.
