The recent corona crisis disrupted “business as usual” and business models of many companies stopped functioning the way they were designed to. The e-commerce sector on the other side was able to gain massively in momentum.
This was something the Austrian martial arts and performance sports brand Phantom Athletics noticed, too. Already while founding the company CEO Dominique Wenger, a pioneer of e-commerce in the German speaking region, who opened his first online store back in 2006, placed a strong emphasis on the online distribution of their products. “Back then many people raised concerns; especially the brick-and-mortar sporting good sellers said that this would never work. But we didn´t lost focus, as it was always clear for me: This is the future. The people, that are failing to keep pace are losing out on it”, Dominique Wenger tells.
The disruption caused by Covid wasn´t just a blessing for the brand. “These were enormous challenges. Demand skyrocketed, while we had serious disruptions of supply chains. But also sending the parcels to the customers wasn´t so easy anymore due to national regulations imposed. We have very good connections to all the necessary clusters, so we were able to cope with it, but no doubt, this period was pretty intense”, Dominique Wenger remembers.
One is for sure: Corona changed the way how we shop for goods for a long time coming, maybe in a definitive matter. Dominique Wengers visionary, prospective view and his long-time experience in e-commerce are a good guaranty to ensure the ongoing success of Phantom Athletics in this new world of commerce.
