What does it mean to have a Prefect Dog For Life? Is there any such thing as a “perfect dog”?

If we were to ask a thousand dog owners this question it would not be surprising to receive a thousand different answers. Dog ownership is a very personal thing and what a dog means to each owner can vary greatly.

It may be that your perfect dog for life is simply a furry little lapdog that will stay by your side and provide lots of love and doggy kisses. Maybe your idea of a perfect dog for life is having a large breed canine that has been developed and trained specifically to guard your home business or property. For professionals working in many different fields their perfect dog for life might be considered more of a working partner, a dog who helps chase down bad guys, assists with herding livestock, or helps detect threats.

Over the last hundred years there has been a movement towards training canines to assist the physically and mentally disabled. This may be in the form of a service dog who can help a sight impaired person with navigating busy city streets or an emotional support animal who’s primary job is to help instill a sense of calm and relaxation to its owner. Whatever your description of your perfect dog for life it is safe to say that no dog is “perfect”. When your dog is a puppy it is going to have accidents in the house, keep you awake at night with crying and potentially damage or destroy your personal property. The thing to remember is that like humans, no dog is perfect. Your goal should be to have a dog that is well adjusted, friendly with other people and pets, and a dog that you have a decent level of understanding and communication with so that you can live together in harmony.
