The Bisonette Glee Club, the premier women’s chorus at Oklahoma Baptist University, will perform Sunday, Feb. 20, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

[Shawnee, 03/02/2022] The Bisonettes will sing during the morning worship service, beginning at 10:45 a.m. The Bisonettes are under the direction of Dr. Kelsey D’Emilio, assistant professor of music. The choir is one of the many musical ensembles within the OBU Division of Music.

OBU President Dr. Heath A. Thomas will speak during the service. OBU will also host a luncheon following the worship service for youth and their families interested in the University.

During the morning worship service, the Bisonettes will perform “God of Wonders,” “Cradle Hymn,” “The Storm Is Passing Over” and “Dominus Vobiscum.” Individual members of the choir will lead the congregation in worshiping with “King of Kings” and “How Great Thou Art.”

The Bisonettes were founded in 1954 by Warren M. Angell, former dean of the College of Fine Arts. Membership in the group is by annual audition, with members hailing from throughout the nation. While music majors comprise a large number of the singers, the group is represented by a variety of non-music majors as well. The group performs at a wide range of campus events and off-campus concerts, including an annual tour of churches and schools. The choir’s repertoire represents a wide range of compositional styles in both sacred and secular musical formats as well as choral standards, traditional numbers and contemporary compositions.

The group will perform at numerous other locations throughout the spring semester. Following recent performances Feb. 15 in high schools in both Ada and Byng, the group will next perform March 7 at Enid High School. On March 30, the Bisonettes will perform at Choctaw High School. The following week, the choir will perform April 7 locally at Shawnee High School. The Bisonettes will conclude their spring performances with their annual Spring Concert May 3 at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium.
