New Delhi, 06, April 2020: One of the largest tech conglomerates of the world, Microsoft on Thursday announced that it will introduce its next-generation AI digital labs in the country to 10 higher education institutions. These institutes include schools and colleges like BITS Pilani, ISB amongst others and train about 1.5 lakh students to lead the technological change in the country.

Microsoft introduced it as a three-year program to aid the selected institutes with unprecedented access to cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI), curriculum and content, and infrastructure along with adequate developer support, Microsoft implied in its statement.

This association will bring a substantial change and transform the colleges and universities as we know it today. The institutional framework will be refurbished with educator capability, help them garner new skills, and deliver meaningful educational choices to the students.

“As AI becomes mainstream, organisations will require talent with skill sets that are very different from what exists now. Educators and institutions are integral to the skilling revolution taking root in the country," Microsoft India President Anant Maheshwari said.

With the right technology infrastructure, curriculum and training, students can be empowered to build India of tomorrow, he added.

The 10 institutions picked to be the part of this initiative are-

BITS Pilani
BML Munjal University
ISB
Kalpataru Institute of Technology
KL University
Periyar University
Karunya University
SRM Institute of Science and Technology

Trident Academy of Technology

The initiative will help the aforementioned institutions to foray into training programs for faculty. These workshops will have a prime focus on data science, cloud computing, AI and Internet of things. Since the new-age technologies are imperative in the country’s growth, it is necessary to create a new-age workforce who can understand, work, and thrive on the innovative changes.

Furthermore, the programme will provide assistance in planning and strategising the curricula and content catering to project-oriented experiential learning in these institutions, the statement said.

One of the selected institutes is BML Munjal University who is known for their extensive practical training in b tech engineering. The institute ranks 8th in the QS World University Rankings 2019. Also, their association with the Imperial College of Londen to curate content, curriculum design, summer study programs, faculty training and more makes them an apt choice for Microsoft’s association.
