A slew of investments and proposals in sustainable development have firmly placed the United Kingdom on a promising path to dramatic growth in the green economy over the next 10 years, and EcoCareers is excited to see where the path leads.

EcoCareers.org is an online jobs board and resource website for all jobs in sustainability, whether traditional green jobs like solar panel technicians or environmental scientists to jobs in industries that are newer to sustainability, like fashion and manufacturing. EcoCareers seeks to connect employers, hiring managers and HR personnel in the green sector with jobseekers and the top talent in their respective industries.

“The UK is quickly developing a robust plan to address the thousands of sustainable jobs that are expected to be needed by 2035 if it is to meet sustainability targets,” said Joseph Boll, EcoCareers CEO. “If the proposals made by the Trade Congress Union about upgrading the public transportation system follow-through, then that would also create even more potential opportunities in the green economy.”

Boll was referring to a recently-released report by the TUC that suggested the UK government invest just around £20 billion more per year to completely revamp public transit. By doing so, the UK could significantly increase usage of public transport, reducing the amount of harmful emissions and helping to achieve sustainable goals. This could likewise generate an estimated £52 billion in GDP growth; create more than 850,000 jobs in bus/tram operation, construction, manufacturing, and supply chain; and help to support some 1.8 million existing and new jobs. Such jobs could be a huge help in encouraging a greener way of life, and possibly also utilising advanced renewable energy and green technologies that could emerge in the UK in the same timeline.

The UK government has actually already agreed to invest £30 million into green jobs and sustainable tech through a recent grant award. Not to mention its ambitious Powering Up Britain plan that aims to catapult the country to the top of the renewable energy field. If the TUC’s proposal is accepted, it could very well line up with the UK government’s goals in a big way.

Boll said, “Developments in the green economy are looking exceptionally positive for the next decade. This is incredibly promising for opportunities in sustainable business, both in terms of investment as well as job growth. EcoCareers.org is eager to see what comes next, and is ready to assist with connecting jobseekers and employers in the green economy.”
