The CEO of a website dedicated to remote jobs is emphasizing why remote work continues to be crucial for a modern workforce.

While new government data indicates that the overall percentage of Americans working remotely decreased slightly between 2021 and 2022, the CEO of a website dedicated to remote jobs has emphasized that the results show why remote work continues to be crucial for a modern workforce.

Remote Worker is an online jobs board and resource website for remote workers, remote work jobseekers, and hiring managers, employers and HR personnel seeking to recruit and hire the top talent for remote positions.

The organization’s CEO, Joseph Boll, referenced government data that found fewer Americans are working remotely, but almost 50% of all remote workers in 2022 were women.

“Work-life balance has consistently been one of the biggest advantages of remote work,” said Boll. “A lot of people first went remote out of necessity, because of social distancing and to keep everyone safe during the COVID outbreak. But RemoteWorker has advocated for remote work and its benefits even before the pandemic.”

The CEO said that the importance of remote work for giving employees better work-life balance, meeting DE&I targets and helping with efforts to create a fair and balanced workforce where men and women participate equally cannot be understated. Rather, as businesses continue trying to get staff to return to physical offices, the need for remote work should be reiterated.

Boll said, “This is shown from the government’s data that indicates more women than men work remotely, because more women are usually responsible for household chores and childcare. That’s not speculation — government data has confirmed it. By giving employees remote, hybrid or other flexible options, businesses allow them to adequately manage their homes while still participating in and productively contributing to the labor force.”

For women especially, it continues to be important in ensuring they remain part of the workforce instead of having to quit for unpaid domestic labor. In contrast, government data found that fewer men worked remotely in 2022, and that they also performed much less domestic labor than women, leading some to suggest that men might be more eager to return to the office than women.

Nonetheless, Boll emphasized, “The most important thing is giving staff the option to choose a way of working that is best for them and where they can do their best work. Whether more women want to work from home and more men want to work in the office, all employees should have an employer that communicates with them and that can offer reasonable ways of working.”
