A recent survey results was released by the American Society Of Plastic Surgeons or ASPS. It showed that 89% of women want to have a view the results of breast reconstruction surgery before they undergo breast cancer treatments. This moved a certain group of board-certified plastic surgeons to start a program called Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day in the USA. This will be held in New Orleans come 17th of October.

ASPS president Malcolm Z. Roth says, "We are going to provide information in a way that's never been done before on this level, a group of breast reconstruction patients will show a group of breast cancer patients what their reconstruction choices look like. This is something that until now has been a taboo topic, and we want to give these women a forum to get the information they need."

A lot of breast cancer patient organizations say that women wants to go more than just seeing before and after images. They want to see the real actual results of breast surgery reconstruction procedures in person. They want to see it live. More than the images can provide, patients can discuss some real issues with the cancer survivors who had undergone the procedure.

Dr. Roth says, "It is our job as doctors to fully inform our patients about breast reconstruction options, Women are telling us that they want to actually see what reconstruction results would look like beforehand, and as their physicians we need to do everything we can to honor their request."

The survey had these results. 23% of women are aware of the wide range of breast reconstruction options that are available. 22% of women are familiar with the quality of results. 19% of women have an understanding about the timing of their treatment for breast cancer and timing of their decision to undergo reconstruction can affect their options and results.

Dr. Frank DellaCroce, MD a member of ASPS believes that surgeons have an important role in the lives of breast cancer patient’s helpers or caregivers. He says, "I see a great number of patients who come in and say ‘I wish I'd known about certain reconstruction options beforehand. I wish I could turn back the clock.' But the problem is you can't turn back the clock."

Another surgeon named Dr. Paul McCluskey of http://psiatlanta.com/ says that “it’s important that every cancer patient should be aware of what they will expect. It’s part of their healing process. Positive outlook can greatly help in their attitude towards the situation they are in.” BRA Day, is one important campaign to help a lot women either suffering or not in seeing their future without being touched.
