All these years, the need for plastic surgery has remained motionless. However, the number of doctors “offering” cosmetic procedures is slowly but steadily growing. Take note, the word here is offer. A lot of physicians are calling themselves cosmetic surgeons. This is a huge attraction for a lot of patients. He says, “We've seen a flood of doctors, many not trained in surgery of any type, into cosmetic medicine and surgery because maybe they can make more money in cosmetic surgery than in what they were trained to do. Everyone knows there are serious economic pressures to doctors, and offering cosmetic surgery is available to them. It sounds crazy, but it’s true."

He also says the new generations of doctors are trained to fix procedures like body contouring and breast enhancements in just a matter of hours in a certain hotel where he spent 100’s of hours in a week within 5 years just to master them. There’s a huge difference here.

Wall adds, "We have always had a significant portion of our practice dedicated to secondary, or revision, surgery, but we've seen it increase quite a bit during the past 3 to 5 years." According to Dr. Wall, a lot of his re-do patients come from referrals by some other plastic surgeons. Some of these patients he says are not satisfied with the procedures that was done to them. And, a lot of times in these situations, the conditions can’t be improved. He says, “Unfortunately, some of these contour deformities just can’t be improved, or fixed. We try to be honest and up front about what we can and cannot improve, and I think patients appreciate that. It’s frustrating for us and the patient.”

Also, many of these patients say that their first option is a non-plastic surgeon, or those that are new in the field. The reason is primary financial. This may be true but the risks are higher. According to Dr. Wall Jr. choosing a board-certified plastic surgeon will be worth all the money that a patient is paying. It’s because you get a lot of years of training, safety and modern technological breakthroughs in their tools as well as products.
