Hollywood, CA – Online audiences have spoken: “I Remember You” is connecting with viewers on streaming platforms including Amazon Instant Video. The film follows Leah and Samuel; two strangers who feel a powerful connection after being involved in the same accident.
A micro budget film, “I Remember You” has achieved success against all odds and is proving to be the little movie that could. With no movie stars and without the traditional A-list film festival premiere that indie films rely on for distribution, “I Remember You” has managed to reach its audience and gain a following online with a VOD release. “It’s been very exciting to see that it’s possible to reach your audience without a traditional theatrical release. We weren’t expecting such a strong response,” shares writer/director Claudia Sparrow. “I Remember You” is the first production for Local Hero, a feature film post production company in Santa Monica, CA. Local Hero has overseen post production of over 100 studio and independent films, including “Pitch Perfect,” “Dope,” and the upcoming “Captain Fantastic” and “LBJ.”
“I Remember You” was selected as the opening night film at the 2015 Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles where it won “Best Feature-Length Dramatic Film.” The film was then released in December of 2015, and broke records for distributor Indie Rights, on Amazon Video, for the most rentals in a 1-month period. The film also has been steadily racking up trailer views on YouTube, and is about to cross 1,000,000 and has gathered an impressive 4-star average rating on Amazon from viewers where it’s become a popular new release. “I Remember You” will also be released in China and is opening in the UK this weekend exclusively on Flix Premiere.
As an indie romance with a supernatural twist and and epic scope, “I Remember You” is standing out from the crowd of romance and rom-com films available at home. The film centers on a mystery; how can two strangers feel that they know each other intimately after their first chance encounter? The strangers at the heart of the story are LEAH EVANS (Stefanie Butler), a Ph.D. student in Immunology and SAMUEL DAVIS (Joe Egender), a talented but undiscovered actor in Hollywood. Leah and Samuel are thrown together when Leah spots Samuel drowning in the ocean early one morning and manages to barely save him. Both of their lives are forever changed after the accident as they experience a powerful connection that echoes across time. Touching on themes of PTSD, past lives and destiny, “I Remember You” is resonating with female audiences. “I think our audience really appreciates the unique journey of Leah and Samuel as well as the care that we put into the filmmaking. We only had 12 days for principal photography and a tiny budget, but we never saw that as an excuse to compromise its production value,” explains Claudia.
What inspired the making of this film? “I fell in love with the concept of soul mates, the what if we were able to live more than once, and what if love could survive across time. It’s such a pure, beautiful concept and I’m thrilled to see audiences responding to it,” says Claudia.
Life in LA Magazine writes:
“The film is akin to such memorable movies as Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation and Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It is a worthwhile watch for anyone looking for a powerful love story driven by characters we can most certainly relate to.”
LA Weekly writes:
“Writer/ Director Claudia Sparrow zigs where you expect her to zag … and though I Remember You ends up exactly where you expect it to, the windy, circuitous path it takes doesn’t feel like time misspent.”
