China’s lithium battery equipment market was valued at nearly USD 0.6 billion in 2014, year-on-year growth of 30%, and is expected to reach about USD 3.6 billion by 2019, growing at a CAGR of 44.5% from 2015 to 2019, this is due to the rapid development of new energy vehicles.
According to the survey, traditional consumer electronics, power lithium batteries and grid energy storage act are major consumer markets of lithium battery equipment in China, accounting for 60%, 28% and 10% in 2014 respectively. Among them, power lithium batteries and grid energy storage will be major drivers prompting China’s demand for lithium battery equipment, with the respective anticipated market share of 65% and 16% in 2019. At present, China’s lithium battery equipment market is featured with a low concentration rate.
Lithium battery equipment started relatively late in China, although there are a number of professional manufacturers to emerge, but its technology is still less advanced and automation, some large battery manufacturers must import equipment from abroad. By contrast, Japan, Korea and other countries have excellent mechanical processing capacity, lithium battery equipment manufacturers have a clear technological advantage, therefore occupy a higher position in the Chinese lithium battery equipment market, such as Japan HIRANO and Kaido are the top two lithium battery equipment producers in China, enjoying 9.0% and 7.8% market share in 2014 respectively.
