Currently, UK travellers need to focus on the traffic light travel system for international travel before planning any tour travel or holidays abroad. The good news is that this system could be scrapped by the end of September, which means travellers will be able to visit a host of countries based on where they wish to go and what they want to do.

The grapevine is suggesting that the current green, amber and red light destinations will be changed to a simplified two-tier system of go and no go destinations. The new system is expected to allow fully vaccinated travellers to visit countries with high vaccination levels without having to quarantine. This would be the go list, including countries that are currently on the green and amber lists.

The current travel traffic light system is expected to be scrapped no later than the 1st October 2021, which has seen a rise in demand for franchise tour travel packages and more enquiries in the past few days than in previous months. This is going to bring great relief to the UK travel industry.

In addition to this, the announcement, which is expected in the next few weeks is expected to discuss post-holiday PCR testing, which may no longer be required for fully vaccinated travellers, which means saving money on international tours and travel in the latter part of the year.

Nashir Janmohamed, the Managing Director at Let's Talk Travel in the United Kingdom, said “PCR tests are expensive and can add an extra £70 per traveller, which is very expensive for a family of three or four. It is expected that the PCR test will be replaced with a lateral flow test, which is free of charge. The high cost of PCR testing has put travellers off going abroad and taking advantage of tours and holiday packages.”

The last review was on 26 August 2021 and UK residents are hoping the new review will be made16 September with changes expected to come in from Sunday or Monday. The new review and two-tier system are opening up a lot of destinations that have been on the amber and red list for some time, eliminating the need for self-quarantine, hotel quarantine and have expensive PCR tests.
