The United Kingdom is currently using a three-tier traffic light travel system that could be replaced by a much easier understand the two-tier system, creating a go and no go list. The current green, amber and red list of travel rules are set to be replaced by a two-tier system by the end of the month.

Travellers eagerly await the UK traffic light system update on travel restrictions, which are usually reviewed every few weeks. This system is reportedly undergoing some major changes, with the amber list potentially being scrapped, which means no more expensive PCR tests for fully vaccinated travellers.

It is expected that the traffic light system will change radically before the start of October 2021, with an announcement expected from Boris Johnson very soon, along with an update on the UK's COVID winter plan. The current system ranks destinations into three categories; green, amber and red, based on coronavirus factors.

Currently, PCR tests are mandatory for all UK travellers returning to the United Kingdom, the tests are to be one on or before the second day of arrival, but this may no longer be a requirement for those that have been fully vaccinated. The focus is to scrap expensive PCR tests before the school half-term holidays.

Currently, the UK travel traffic light system uses data such as how much of the population of the destination has been vaccinated, along with infection rates and access to reliable scientific data.
