Suhel Seth is one of the unsung philanthropists of India. He is known to many for his noteworthy roles in many Bollywood movies. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Guzaarish, and Rog are some of the movies he featured in. However, a lot of people are not aware of the other aspects of his life like he is a theatre artist and has been a part of several English plays. His talents have earned him a seat at the international board of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He is a successful businessman as well. In 2002, he founded Counselage India, a consultancy firm. The businessman also authored and co-authored numerous best-selling books. Further, he is associated with many organisations related to healthcare, history, and poverty.

India is a developing nation and faces many challenges. Poverty, domestic abuse, malnourishment, environmental hazards, and illiteracy are some of the key aspects that need attention. Various NGOs have stepped in to help the needy people but often they do not have the means and resources to help them. By providing more support to these NGOs, social and economic change can be brought in on a broad scale. Time and again we have seen powerful and privileged people who took matters into their own hands and decided to give back to the society generously. Whether they wanted to speak up for children’s rights like Nandita Das or provide education to children like Kapil Dev, we have seen many idols who have always believed in working towards the betterment of society.

Among the many such prominent personalities who always promoted social work is Suhel Seth. Besides donating from his personal capacity, he has made significant contributions through his company, Counselage. To provide medical check-up and health care to the needy for free as a part of his social initiative, he got associated with the Ila Trust, a Delhi-based NGO. Further, he is a board member of the Max Foundation that focuses on providing better cancer treatment to people across the world. His contributions to the health sector do not stop there. Seth is associated with the advisory board of the Indian Head Injury Foundation (IHIF). It was founded to facilitate the process of setting up various brain trauma care systems across the country. He has made a significant donation of 50 lakhs to the partition museum, making him one of the most prominent donors. He made this donation in honour of his parents’ birthplace and in memory of the India-Pakistan partition.

Ila trust has been recognised as one of the very few NGOs that did a commendable job in empowering society. Reeta Devi started this trust in the year 1994. Even as a young girl at the age of 16, she was devoted to helping others alongside Mother Teresa. With the help of the Ila Trust, there are 11 doctors, 3 mobile clinics, 4 pharmacists, 6 screeners, and many other administrative staff members helping many people from the slums in Delhi. They provide them free medical care and focus on various health issues. Seth has always remained closely associated with this NGO and promoted the mission of the organisation.
