Joseph Mignone became a food business owner in Philadelphia in 1997 and later in Delaware which he now owns three restaurants. Here he considers the skills needed to succeed in the industry.

After enjoying success in real estate for more than sixteen years, having entered the industry as a salesperson in 1981, before leaving it as a qualified real estate appraiser, property manager and business owner in 1997, Joseph Mignone decided to turn his attention to another industry. He became part of a well-known food franchise, opening his first restaurant in Philadelphia in 1997 and later in Delaware. Since then, Mignone has gone on to enjoy enormous success, allowing him to open a further two locations in the state.

There are a number of skills that people need to have if they intend to follow in his footsteps. Firstly, all food business owners must understand the importance of providing proper training and development opportunities to their staff. Workplace morale is going to play an important part in the quality of the service that you provide to your diners, so it is crucial that you offer opportunities to your staff and work on ways to keep them happy, fulfilled and enthusiastic, as this will all transfer over into the service that they provide to your customers.

As a food business owner, you also need to be able to prioritize your time so that all of the important tasks relating to the company are handled properly. While it is crucial that you work to maintain high standards of hygiene and quality across your menu, you also need to recognize that running a restaurant requires much more than knowledge of the service that you provide. You must also be a capable marketer, in addition to being able to handle all of the financial and administrative duties that come along with all forms of business ownership.

Finally, Joseph Mignone Delaware points out that he has enjoyed so much success with his three restaurants in Delaware because he is focused on continued education within his industry. He became ServSafe Certified in 2014, eighteen years after opening his first franchise restaurant, and he continues to look for new opportunities that will allow him to develop his knowledge and provide him with all of the tools that he needs to ensure that his employees enjoy a happy working environment.
