From the mid 2000’s, Itziar Camio spent five years in Spain, developing her first business and getting familiar with the teaching profession. After earning a Level 4 certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Others Languages (CELTA) through the prestigious University of Cambridge, she was ready to start her first venture. As the academy director of the Vidaurre Doyle English Academy, she taught English to children, teenagers and adults.

Her evolution at UC Davis was straightforward, stemming from these experiences. She first became a graduate student research assistant, providing knowledge during MBA core accounting classes. Two years later, she became a graduate teaching assistant, continuing with the MBA core classes and teaching MPAC accounting simultaneously. As a graduate assistant teacher, her roles and responsibilities were quite diverse.

She provided assistance for the department chairperson and her fellow faculty members by teaching and performing related duties. In addition to this, she was also responsible for the development of teaching materials, exam preparation, and also the grading process of exams and other papers. While being an assistant teacher, she regularly met with her supervisors to go over the details of the course, including the official expectations and the grading process.

Notifying other instructors about errors and other issues with certain assignments were another one of her responsibilities, along with return assignments, scheduling duties, and the maintenance of office hours during which she meets the students and discussed their performance or certain points of the course material. Since Itziar Camio also had considerable experience as a researcher, providing help for other faculty members’ research duties was for her one of the most enjoyable aspects of her job.

That help sometimes included the use of audiovisual equipment, and providing assistance for other tasks relevant to the school’s main functions. During her ongoing tenure, she showcased a level of expertise and care that made her one of the more popular teachers at the university. Itziar Camio hopes that she will be able to provide assistance for many years to come while being able to enjoy one of her favorite activities, teaching.
