Dennis Roeder Prepares for Mathematics Teaching Career for 2nd and 3rd Grades in Australian Compulsory Education

University of Sydney, Australia graduate Dennis Roeder is dedicated to the goal of teaching mathematics to primary school students, especially his favorite primary years, the second and third grades. Roeder likes to use music to add to the excitement of the subjects he teaches, as well as utilizing the latest technology to bring his students into the modern age. In Australia, basic schooling requires Pre-Year 1 to Year 6/7 of primary school, with secondary school running from years 7/8 to 12, although there are variations according to the territory within the country. The Council of Australian Governments introduced the National Youth Participation Requirement in 2009, which has brought compulsory school ages into greater harmony across Australia’s states and territories. Excepting Tasmania, where the compulsory starting age is five, the beginning age for schooling is six for territories and states, and overall most Australian students begin the first formal school year between 4 ½ and 5 years of age. Australian school children are now to be enrolled in schooling through Year 10, then enrolling in at least 25 years a week of education, training and/or employment through age 17.

The Australian schools where teacher Dennis Roeder will pursue his chosen profession of teaching will be either government or non-government classifications. Australian government schools receive government funding from their respective states or territories. Non-government Australian schools can include Catholic affiliated independent schools, or independent schools like the Anglican affiliated schools, which are funded both through the Australian government and through the appropriate agencies at the state or territory level. The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority reviewed curriculums in 2009 and has since worked to create a national harmony in education curriculums which will be consistent throughout Australia and which will meet the National Youth Participation Requirement. The key learning areas of English, mathematics, science and history, and corollary studies in geography, languages, the arts, economics, business, civics and citizenship, health and physical education, information and communication technology and design and technology are the main focus for national educational consistency.

22-year-old Dennis Roeder has prepared for his primary teaching career with a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Sydney in Sydney, Australia. Roeder is poised to give back to his native New South Wales and its youngest students.
