What are Hybrid Circuits? How Are They Manufactured?

Posted January 27, 2020 by HybridtekLLC

The present press release is all about hybrid circuits. It talks about what they are, how they are manufactured and their benefits.

What is a Hybrid Circuit?

Hybrid circuit is an important component on a PCB in the same way as an Integrated Circuit or (IC) is. There is a little difference between two types of devices and how they are manufactured and constructed.

This circuit is a miniaturized electronic circuit which is constructed of a lot of individual devices like diodes, inductors, transformers and the capacitors etc. These are bonded to a substrate or a PCB or Printed Circuit Board. There are certain benefits of the Hybrid Circuits and they can include the components that are smaller than conventional assembly to a great extent.

These circuits do offer superior performance and they are reliable in the challenging environments like extreme temperature fluctuations. Hybrid circuit manufacturer takes every possible care to fit a niche that is bracketed by ASIC or Application Specific Integrated Circuit on a side and a conventional circuit board on the other.

These circuits are produced primarily in Class 10,000 clean rooms that make use of a ceramic base material. Base material can be custom-ordered including the size, composition, hole placements that are required for the job. It is then when the ceramic circuit material is processed as per the requirement.

The process includes following:

Silk screening metallic inks and the non-conductive materials for the purpose of producing resistors, inductors, transformers, capacitors and transistors etc.
Laser trimming of the resistors to their desired values.

Cleaning
Placing the surface mount components and reflowing the solders subsequently.
Curing the adhesive.
Active trimming of the resistors
Packaging the new devices as required
Wire bonding the diet for the purpose of making electrical connection between the circuits and die.
Encapsulating the die for protecting the wires.
Placing surface mount components and reflowing the solder subsequently.
Testing the circuits.

HIC or Hybrid Integrated Circuits are encapsulated in Epoxy basically. These circuits serve as a major component on PCB just like a Monolithic Integrated Circuit or MIC. There is a major difference between two different types of devices in the way they are manufactured and constructed.
