Ilias Atwani has won several photography contests including The Art of Mining. Organized by a global professional services firm, the competition challenged photographers in mining communities to capture images that depicted one of three themes: community engagement, environmental stewardship, or health and safety. The winning picture was the same picture that was submitted to another contest called “20 Years of Engagement” which asked the employees and contractors to submit photos that captured engagement in a work setting. Ilias and Andre (second-place winner) were rewarded with a personalized tour of local Inuit villages Salluit and Kangiqsujuaq.
Some of the other notable events of Ilias Atwani’s life include:
-- Recruitment in the Inuit village of Kangiqsujuaq (Wakeham Bay) in July 2013
-- Attending CIM Annual Convention 2013 in Toronto – May 2013
-- Participating in the Games of National Days of Young Developers in March 2007
