General Patrick O’Reilly begins new position focused on international defense.

Retired General Patrick O’Reilly has accepted an appointment as a Senior Fellow in the Brent Scrowcroft Center for International Security of the Atlantic Council. General Patrick O’Reilly’s experience and the center’s goals are a great fit.

The Brent Scrowcroft Center for International Security was first started in September 2012 in an effort to further develop the Atlantic Council’s focus on the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). General Patrick O’Reilly is pleased to begin his tenure with the Brent Scrowcroft Center. “The opportunity is one I relish. There is nothing more fulfilling than pro-actively addressing the major security and societal issues that face our countries and our allies in the 21st century” said General Patrick O’Reilly.

In addition to focusing on NATO, the Brent Scrowcroft Center is dedicated to studying regional and international security as it pertains to challenges to the United States and its allies. One such focus, though relatively newer in conception, is on enhancing deterrence and collaborative defense for NATO and our international partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

General Patrick O’Reilly will be working with this program, in addition to a few others. One of those other programs is the development of universal data fusion capabilities that will enable all missile defense systems, and sensors from any country, to be combined into cost effective missile defense and the influence of General Patrick O’Reilly will very likely be evident. This initiative has the goal of understanding cooperative ballistic missile defense requirements and applying that knowledge to achieve cost effective missile protection for the United States, its allies, and its partners. Missile proliferation, fueled by North Korea and Iran, have led to an international focus on deterring arms sales, and General Patrick O’Reilly as a member of the Brent Scrowcroft Center will concentrate on ideas to devalue the international arms market.

General Patrick O’Reilly said, “I understand that we are in a constantly shifting international environment, and it is our focus, to stay up to date with the evolving landscape and trends.” General Patrick O’Reilly brings 34 years of military experience with him to his position as a Senior Fellow.
