After the first two days of the 2017 NFL Draft, general manager Jason Licht caused it to be clear that suspended operating back Doug Martin is last the organization's good graces.

Tampa Bay didn't address the backfield until taking a flier on Jeremy McNichols of Boise State inside fifth round.

At this point, Licht is hoping in which Martin can recapture 2015 All-Pro form as the team's lead back.

Appearing on Tuesday's edition of Hello Football, Licht raved about Martin's recovery this offseason, stating that the 28-year-old tailback have been "outstanding" both mentally in addition to physically.

"Doug has looked as effective as I've seen him, " Licht added.

Licht isn't alone throughout his newfound optimism.

"Doug has looked awesome the past little while, " tight end Cameron Brate not too long ago told PewterReport. com. "He's been dominating the conditioning drills. That's not something you can fake -- those conditioning drills. You have either been putting in the work or you haven't.

"Just to see them in good spirits -- literally he looks awesome -- each of the guys on the crew love Doug. We're excited to observe him back. He's happy and he is healthy. We're all excited intended for him. "

Martin's suspension will cost him the first three games of the 2017 season, which will leave the Bucs with a ground attack by panel in September.

Licht singled out Jacquizz Rodgers as being a player who "answered the actual bell" when Martin was sidelined by way of hamstring injury early past season. The GM also desires passing-down specialist Charles Sims to get healthy for training camp after suffering a torn pectoral muscle in overdue December.

As deep as Tampa Bay's backfield presents itself, however, Martin is ticketed for the starring role after Licht passed on signing Adrian Peterson or drafting an early-round replacement like Dalvin Cook.

"We like to get options, " Licht emphasized, "and one of those people options we like having him around right now is the guy that had been the second-leading rusher inside 2015, Doug Martin. "

With the additions of impact talents such as veteran deep threat DeSean Jackson, first-round tight end O. J. Howard and third-round radio Chris Godwin, the Buccaneers are some sort of trendy playoff pick this season.

If they're going to help overtake the Falcons and Panthers inside NFC South, though, Martin's resurgence as a new tackle-breaking foundation back is perhaps the most important variable.
