Nearby Attractions More to See in and Around Taupo

Explore the beautiful coasts, expansive farmlands, geothermal features, and Maori-influenced cities of New Zealand's North Island. A romantic getaway, wine tour, or beach vacation may all be had on the North Island.

It provides for your every need and want. The North Island of New Zealand is home to some of the world's most breathtaking five-star resorts, and any one of the following eight would be an excellent addition to your itinerary. Each one is an excellent starting point for an unforgettable vacation in New Zealand.

Taupo, a town on New Zealand's North Island, is located right on the shores of Taupo Lake (hence the name). There are few places in the United States that compare to this one for me. Surrounded by picturesque scenery, numerous hiking opportunities presented themselves beside the lake and Superior one bedroom near Taupohotels. Sadly, my stay here was cut short.

Taupo is renowned for its beautiful scenery, abundance of great treks (it is the starting point of the world-famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing), abundance of fishing and boating choices, and pleasant neighbourhood markets (including the impressive Huka Falls). Queenstown, the South Island's epicenter of nightlife and outdoor activities, has a more relaxed equivalent here.

You should give bungee jumping a go because it's a fun and exciting new sport.
Taupo is the place to go bungee jumping for the first time in New Zealand because it has the highest water contact bungee (47 metres above the Waikato River). The alternative is the Cliffhanger Swing, which can reach speeds of 57 miles per hour and lets riders twist their bodies across an arc of up to 180 degrees. This bungee jump is one of the cheapest in New Zealand, with prices beginning at around 185 New Zealand dollars.

Enjoy the soothing waters of Turangi's hot springs.
If you head southwest from Taupo, you'll eventually reach the charming town of Turangi. Geothermal hot springs exist here, and it's possible that there are more than a few. You can also take a dip in the pools, which are linked to the geothermal features by a path that meanders through them. If you're looking for a cheap way to kill an afternoon, a visit to the hot springs (which won't break the bank at just $10 NZD) may be just what the doctor ordered.

3 In your spare time, stop by the Lake Taupo Museum and Art Gallery.
Close to the centre of Taupo, this little museum showcases exhibits about the city's Maori, volcanic, and early European pasts. Works by local artists are always on display, and the building also serves as a functional recreation of a traditional Maori meeting house. Winner of the Chelsea Flower Show in 2004, the Ora garden is open to the public. The entrance fee is 5 New Zealand dollars (NZ$).

Tauhara Mountain Climb Given its convenient location on the city's eastern outskirts and its popularity among climbers, this dormant volcano is a popular destination for the sport. To get the best possible start on your climb, park at the very end of Mountain Road. (Before you set out, you should know that the gradient is high.) An hour and a half of hiking is needed to reach the peak. From a height of 1,008 metres above sea level, one may take in the breathtaking panorama of the lake below. Birds come in a wide variety of forms. Taking this hike won't break the bank at all.

In order to unwind, Butcher's Pool is the place to go.
Given its isolated location, it is not surprising that this thermal spring is usually visited by no more than a handful of people at any given time. You'll need to travel around 40 km outside of town to reach it. Since it is linked to both hot and cold mineral springs, the pool at Butcher's Pool was called after one of the area's oldest residents, a butcher. It is my sincere desire that you be able to make it out here. More than that, there is zero cost to make use of it.

Late in 2018, Franklyn and Kavita relocated to Taupo from Auckland, where they had been leading a hectic city life for the previous 20 years, and took over the management of the excellent Gables Motel. They are seasoned travellers who have been all over the world, and they are more than qualified to answer your inquiries on things to do and places to visit in New Zealand!
