When martial arts training first became renowned in the 80s’, it was mostly underground. Karate and Kung Fu clubs popped up all over the place, there was little supervision, and practitioners were pretty much going at it gung ho!
Of course, there were adored masters who were idolized over here in the west, as they were in the East, as they still are now. However, there were many incorrect training techniques utilized back then, and safety was not a priority even though honor and integrity were.
While the new mixed martial arts guild has its own problems, the requirement for regulatory and insurance is an indication of the progress being made, ensuring modern mma training routine are suitable and safe for people from all walks of life, woman, man or child.
As such, martial arts training classes are increasingly popular, and students have multiple choices of which schools to attend in most towns and cities. Then there are the sports oriented gyms which teach more intensive martial arts like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the style that dominated Mixed Martial Arts during its early years.
