Recently, an announcement from the Legion alpha about including Epic Battle Pet Stones in the game has stirred up much controversy. While providing players a chance of upgrading their pets to Epic, this change means that lots of grinding, or wow gold will be required. What are the Epic Battle Pet Stones?
Generally, the Epic pet battle stones were added in the latest Legion alpha over a week ago according to WoWhead. An example is Immaculate Battle-Stone, which would significantly increased the stat of a battle pet to epic quality and introduce a new tier that all pets would need to reach to be the strongest possible pets they could be. Here's a stat comparison of rare and epic:

Rare Cinder Kitten: 1400 Health, 293 Power, 293 Speed

Epic Cinder Kitten: 1500 Health, 315 Power, 315 Speed

For many relatively heavy pet battle players, that meant a great amount of grinding, as they need to upgrade over 600 pets in addition to collecting any new pets available in the expansion. As for newcomers of battle pets, it would be an even overwhelming step to boost their pets to Epic.
Why Blizzard decided not to include them in Legion?
After the Epic pet battle stones were announced, there has been lots of controversy among the wow community, and most of players claimed that the addition of Epic pet battle stones only makes people grind stones to upgrade, which is just work, but not fun content. After analyzing the feedback and identifying the issues that would come with the stones, Blizzard finally decided not to include epic pet stones in Legion. Instead, they will work on different types of pet battle updates for the future content. For example, adding more pets to find with new abilities. “This direction also pushes us to create content that tests max-level-pet-battlers in a way that is not purely numbers, but use of abilities, use of specific pets, and memorization of enemy strategies” Blizzard said in the blue post they will give some exciting things for future like the Celestial Tournament.
This change on Epic Battle Pet Stones, as well as Blizzard’s shifting attitudes to WOW Water Striders location restriction, prove that everything happening in the legion alpha is still subject to change. So be calm down, and wait to see what the final expansion will be. Scheduled to release on or before September 21, Legion will bring increased level cap, the Demon Hunter hero class, the Broken Isles area, Artifact weapons, and much more to wow fans.
