The Jaipur based IPL Team Rajasthan Royals who were the winners in only one IPL season which was the IPL 2008, the Inaugural IPL season. Out of the eleven IPL seasons, Rajasthan Royals were part of only nine IPL seasons.
Rajasthan Royals along with Chennai Super Kings was suspended for two years due to the corruption and match-fixing scandal which did not allow them to participate in IPL 2016 and IPL 2017 seasons.
The team returned in IPL 2018 but did not manage to win the season and were qualified till Playoffs (4th/8). Now IPL 12 season will start from 29 March 2019 where the Rajasthan Royals will have in their team the following players:
Ajinkya Rahane, Prashant Chopra, Aryaman Birla, Sanju Samson, Rahul Tripathi, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, and Manan Vohra as batsmen. The All-rounders in the RR squad includes Stuart Binny, Shreyas Gopal, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Shashank Singh, Shubham Rajane, Riyan Parag, Liam Livingstone, and Ashton Turner.
In the bowling department, Rajasthan Royals have only two spinners- Ish Sodhi and Mahipal Lomror. The RR pacers include S. Midhun, Dhawal Kulkarni, Oshane Thomas, Varun Aaron, and Jaydev Unadkat.
Steven Smith who is back to Rajasthan Royals for the current season will not be the captain of the team this time too. Previous IPL season Captain Ajinkya Rahane will lead the side in the IPL upcoming season.
Steven Smith who was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2014 Auction was given captaincy in the latter half of the 2015 IPL season. Then in 2018 IPL season which was a comeback season for Rajasthan Royals, they again named Steven Smith as captain.
But due to the involvement of Steven Smith in the ball tampering scandal in the Third Test in South Africa in March 2018, the team stepped down Smith as a captain and Ajinkya Rahane was made the new captain of RR.
For this season too, the charge to lead the Rajasthan Royals is on Rahane and Steven Smith will not be the captain for IPL 2019.
