Your furnace seems to be leaking water and it’s making a mess on your floor. What could be causing it? How can you handle this problem if it presents itself?

It’s Probably Just Condensation

In the case of high-efficiency furnaces, the usual cause of a leak is condensation. Because these are high-efficiency furnaces, they tend to get more combustion gases longer than your average furnace. This allows the gases to go through a cooling process, which will then cause a condensation. This is a normal process and your high-efficiency furnace installer should have thought of this in advance and installed a floor drain to allow the condensation to drain without flooding your home.

If you have a floor drain but there are still condensation leaks, it might due to some internal issues with the furnace. If the drain or tubing where the condensation should flow out is clogged with dirt, which can happen if you don’t get maintenance for your furnace, some of that condensation can overflow and lead elsewhere.

Damage in the condensation line can also be the culprit. If there are small holes or breaks in the condensation line, some of the water can leak from there.

If you are using a standard furnace but you still experience a leak, the problem could be due to the flue or the exhaust pipe. If they are not sized correctly, the combustion gases might not be vented out easily, resulting in the buildup of condensation.

Your Humidifier is Leaking

There are homes where their humidifier is connected to their furnace. It’s not your furnace that needs a repair but your humidifier. The leak could be originating from here. Before you need furnace repair in Coquitlam, have your whom HVAC system maintenance first. Proper maintenance can prevent this from happening.

There is a Clog in Your Drain System

Another possible reason why you have water leaking from your furnace is that there is a clog in your internal drain. If your furnace shares an internal drain with other systems like your air conditioner and it gets clogged, the water condensing from the air conditioner can leak through the furnace.

The Secondary Heat Exchanger of Your Furnace isn’t Working

A malfunctioning secondary heat exchanger can also be the culprit. This needs professional furnace repair in Coquitlam. If you have a high-efficiency furnace and this happens to you, you might not just need furnace repair in Coquitlam, you might have to replace the entire thing.

If you notice water leaking from your furnace, it’s important to get a professional to diagnose the problem. Accurate diagnosis is needed to provide the right furnace repair in Coquitlam. You can get the services of Coleman Heating Inc. when it comes to furnace issues.
