The common admission schedule for Class XI admissions to government schools is likely to start by June with the results of the CBSE Class X examinations expected by the end of this month. According to officials of the education department, a finalised common admission schedule for Class XI admissions along with the school prospectus and application forms will be released by the first week of June.
In a meeting of the education department held recently, it was also decided that two new courses – mass media and legal studies – will be introduced for Class XI government school students from the next academic year. The education department is, however, yet to decide on the number of seats available for these new courses. The department has also stated that the first and second rounds of counselling for Class XI admissions will be done online this year, while the third round, if needed, will be done offline. For the last two years, there have been 12,925 seats for Class XI at the 37 senior secondary schools across the city. At 6,000, the maximum number of seats were available in humanities, followed by around 300 seats in the science stream and about 2,000 each in commerce and vocational courses. This year, however, Government Model High School, Sector 38-D, has also been upgraded to government senior secondary school to facilitate more admissions. On the other hand, admissions for Class XI across city private schools are already complete with schools giving provisional admissions to candidates on the basis of their yearly performance and results of the pre-board examinations

The final list of the admitted candidates in private schools will be released only after the CBSE results, which are expected this month.
