Modern Turf, Inc., a South-Carolina-based turfgrass production company, has completed installation of new putting greens at Old Tabby Links, the legendary Spring Island, South Carolina-course.

Rembert, South Carolina (October 23, 2012) - Modern Turf, Inc., a South-Carolina-based turfgrass production company, has completed installation of new putting greens at Old Tabby Links, the legendary Spring Island, South Carolina-course, designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay.

The 7,004 yard, par-72 Old Tabby Links course opened in 1993 and is said to have been the favorite of all the courses Seay designed.

Hank Kerfoot, president of Modern Turf, said, “These are the types of projects our firm enjoys most of all: updating a venerable course to ensure the highest quality of play. Replacing the existing turf is not simply an aesthetic choice; it’s a sound business decision. The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass is infinitely more tolerant of heat and drought, requiring less water. And it is better for the environment, requiring less in the way of fungicides and pesticides.”

The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials during the past several years.

Said Kerfoot, “Ed Seay and Arnold Palmer had a very special vision for Old Tabby Links. It is a great honor to be part of upholding their legacy for future generations.”
