Broward County Abusing Civil Judgments

Posted June 18, 2016 by BrowardCountyNews

Now, in Broward County, someone can get a judgment against you in another state in your absence and BSO will come start taking stuff out of your house.

Be afraid Broward County residents. Now, BSO and the Courts will allow an individual to get a judgment against you in another state (in your absence) and even if you haven't been served this judgment, the judge will allow BSO to break into your house and start taking your things. What's worse is with sheriff's deputies like Kevin Kennison, they will take objects that are not on the levy order.

A single mom got a judgment against her in absentia from Ohio. Being a single mom, she applied for legal aid because she didn't have money to fight the people. Legal aid denied her because they only work on a few cases a year. She didn't have the money to go and a default judgment was entered against her.

This judgment was granted in September 2015. In June of 2016, BSO broke into where she was staying (where the lease wasn't in her name) and started taking items out of a furnished apartment. This isn't just wrong, it's sick. BSO should be ashamed. They knowingly took items that didn't belong to her. Kennison left with the entire building's internet access and was behaving in an arrogant and nasty manner.

Police are supposed to protect and serve. The individual who acquired this judgment was trying to hide an affair from his wife and used his money to bully the victim. BSO went right along in harassing this poor young girl. Kevin Kennison, Sheriff Israel, and BSO should be ashamed of themselves. This has to stop.

For Kennison to knowingly take items both not on his levy order and that the residents could prove did not belong to the person staying in the unit, it's just illegal any way you look at it. These deputies are supposed to enforce Court orders, not harass people. Kennison took items not on the order to punish the residents for video taping him. In addition, he refused the occupant the right to contact an attorney. Any way you slice it, this is officer misconduct.
