May was another great month for the sales of electric vehicles in the US. The sales for the month may were 16,627 up 44% from May 2016 and total sales Jan-May 2017 are 41% over the same period in2016.

Prius Prime and Chevy Volt lead the sales among the plug-in hybrids. In the past months, the Hyundai Ioniq and the Chrysler Pacifica have joined the increasing number of models that will be able to attract a wider range of EV drivers.

Chevrolet has finally decided to open the sales of the Chevy Bolt to all 50 States speeding up the roll out of the most promising EV at this time. Sales in May were over 1,500 vehicles and and that the whole market can access it sales are expected to go above 2,000 units per month.

EV sales in the US are forecasted at 205K-210K units.

Canada sales are also up in 2017 as of April sales were 59% compared to 2016. Government programs and incentives have helped stimulate the market.

Germany sales are up 87% from this time last year and took the top spot in terms of country sales for April.

Netherlands continues to struggle and EV sales are down 22% from same period last year as the expiration of incentives continues to hurt the market. This confirms that the EV market still needs some government support to help its market penetration.

In the meantime, the EV charging industry is very active in developing new and more powerful chargers to reduce the fueling time down to durations comparable with gas fueling.
