ONLY ON CVP: to get him to accept a plea deal, saying he’s innocent of charges that he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.

“I would never plead guilty to nothin’ I didn’t do,” said Arthur W. Gilliam, 35, who’s headed to trial in September.

An original indictment accused Gilliam of the crime, but it was withdrawn after defense attorney Ron Bar-Nadav demonstrated that he was in jail on the alleged dates.

A new indictment was then returned charging the 6-foot-1, 330-pound Gilliam with second-degree sexual assault of a minor, restraining and exposing a minor to serious bodily injury, criminal sexual contact, impairing or debauching the morals of a child under 16 (and older than 13) in spring 2011.

Arrested 15 months ago, he remained held on $150,000 bail this morning in the Bergen County Jail.

Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Kristin DeMarco offered eight years in state prison — six years and eight months without parole — in exchanged for a guilty plea.

But Gilliam isn’t interested.

Bar-Nadav said the complaining witness, now 18, has already recanted her story once and then gave new information incriminating his client.

Gilliam has an extensive criminal record that stretches back 15 years. It includes convictions for assault (twice), arson, weapons possession and burglary.
