Since launching in March 2023, Handyman John has completed over 750 jobs across Northamptonshire, building a five-star Google reputation with perfect scores across 18 verified reviews. This success comes at a time when finding reliable home maintenance professionals has become increasingly challenging for homeowners.
"When I started this business two years ago, I simply wanted to provide honest, reliable service at fair prices," said Cammidge. "I never expected the response would be so overwhelming. What began as a one-man operation has grown to the point where I'm now looking at bringing on additional help to meet demand."
The business milestone coincides with recent data from the Office for National Statistics showing a 34% increase in home improvement spending across the East Midlands since 2023, as homeowners increasingly choose to upgrade existing properties rather than move during uncertain economic times.
Cammidge attributes his success to a diverse skill set spanning electrical work, plumbing, carpentry, and decorating, allowing him to handle multiple aspects of home maintenance that would typically require several different contractors. This comprehensive service has proven particularly valuable to elderly residents and busy families across Northamptonshire communities including Raunds, Wellingborough, Rushden, and Kettering.
"Many of my elderly clients tell me they've struggled to find someone trustworthy who'll take on smaller jobs," Cammidge explained. "Meanwhile, younger homeowners often don't have the time or tools to tackle their maintenance lists. Being the single point of contact who can handle everything from hanging doors to fixing leaky taps has really resonated with people."
Looking ahead, Cammidge plans to expand his service area to include more Northamptonshire communities while maintaining the personal touch that has defined his business. He is also exploring the addition of specialised services such as smart home device installation to meet evolving customer needs.
"My goal for year three is controlled growth that doesn't compromise on quality," said Cammidge. “There's clearly demand for reliable tradespeople across Northamptonshire, and I want to help meet that need while supporting the next generation of skilled workers."
